Hi all.
I'm new here, having just joined the list today.
My question is; how can anyone reliably recognize a real Lingenfelter conversion, from a "ringer"?
I recently purchased a '92 Corvette convertible, which to me,.. appears to be the genuine article. It is a 6 speed car. I was told the engine is 383 C.I.D..
It has a very noticeable chop when idling. Looking in through the oil filler cap, I can see that it has had extensive head work, i.e. the ports have been raised to the point that they have out of necessity added extra metal across the top of them. You can see the titanium retainers and non stock springs, as well as the forged stainless double roller bearing rocker arms.
It has an over sized throttle body with the Lingenfelter nameplate. Smog equipment is intact. It has quality "shorty headers, dual cats, and 2-3/4" exhaust, terminating in a wicked looking (and sounding) adjustable 'Power Effects' muffler system.
It has white reflective "LINGENFELTER" badging on either side of the hood (behind the front tires and just above the shut line), and the guy I bought it from said that there was one on the right side of the rear bumper cover also, but he had the bumper cover refinished, and it was removed at that time. It is also embroidered into the seat backs just below the headrests. However, even though they all match, the font looks very similar to what you see above,.. and is not like the stylized font I've seen on the newer vehicles from LPE.
Is there anyway to tell for sure,.. maybe by the engine numbers, for example? Does anyone know if LPE has records on all these cars..?
Thanks for your help.
