During the testing of the 8.95 second at 153.75 mph LPE 427 CID twin turbocharged C5 Corvette and other high horsepower automatic equipped vehicles, we have found that the production input shafts can twist, causing the fluid holes to become out of round. This causes the transmission to no longer function properly. LPE developed these heavy duty input shafts made from heat treated 300M material to solve this problem.
The LPE heavy duty input shafts are recommended for use on high horsepower vehicles and vehicles that see frequent drag racing use with slicks. We also recommend them for use in vehicles that will be towing heavy loads.
In standard form the LPE heavy duty input shafts do not have any TCC checks balls (no capsule ball assembly). The lack of TCC check balls will result in a firmer torque converter clutch lock-up. This allows the lock-up clutch to apply faster due to no restriction for exhaust of the oil (if you notice the check ball has a small hole the allows oil to pass by the check ball at a certain rate). The check balls can be installed in the LPE heavy duty shafts for a more OE style TCC lock-up feel.
