LS1, LS6 & LS2 engines can be protected from loss of
oil pressure during hard cornering such as occurs on road racing tracks in hard
turns. When you go into an long or hard turn, the engines oil pump pick up
can become uncovered even when running the GM suggested 1 extra quart of
oil.
The Moroso engine oil accumulator just might save your engine from damage, by giving you extra oil in reserve. Plumbed into the pressurized side of your oiling system, they use compressed air to force its oil reserve into your engine when the oil pressure drops below normal. When the pressure returns to normal, that reserve oil is forced back into the accumulators, and is ready for the next emergency.
Another benefit of this system is it can help reduce cold
start damage. Before starting a cold engine, the driver opens the valve and the pressurized oil in the Accumulator pre-oils the engine and prevents cold start scuffing, dramatically
increasing the life of the engine bearings as well as other components.
